An Unserious Guide to Bilingual Internet Slang
For Gen Z mostly
Context
A zillennial (born between the fuzzy lines of Millennial and Gen Z), I am chronically online. As a bilingual, I am chronically online twice as much. In 2019, I started making webcomics on social media to document memorable moments of my life as an immigrant with a multicultural upbringing. After all, having lived in China, Japan, Singapore, and the United States gave me quite some stories to tell. Lately, I have been fascinated by the different online ecosystems in China and the US, and the subsequent differences in internet-specific vocabulary.
The title An Unserious Guide to English-Chinese Internet Slang serves to satisfy our curiosity about other languages and internet culture. Hopefully next time you come across Chinese content on your social media for-you page, you will know some of the words!
My Role
This project is a one-woman show! I am responsible for researching and compiling bilingual internet slang, illustrating, and publishing the book. I am also in charge of post-sale services, including shipping and communicating with customers.
