Intercultural Dialogue Through Art
Using art as a linguistic bridge on college campus and beyond
Context
Having spent my formative years in multiple countries, I struggled with answering the simplest yet most common small talk question--"Where are you from?" During my undergraduate and graduate years at Lehigh University, I befriended international students who shared similar backgrounds and interests as me, and used visual and literary arts to unearth the confusion, joy, resentment, and many more emotions that I had once bottled up. Through my active involvement on campus, my passion for artistic expression and bridging cultures turned into comparative research projects, a comic book publication, and the founding of multiple student organizations. This lecture sums up my work with Lehigh.
My Role
My proposal was accepted to the first LVAIC TESOL conference, and I became one of the first student speakers representing Lehigh University College of Education.
